Chief Minister Digambar Kamat confirmed that he had asked the Department of Information Technology to see how social networking sites can be monitored and even blocked if necessary.
Speaking to Goa Chronicle, he said he had written to the Department not only because of the complaints from his ministerial colleagues but also from the public in general.
“I have received many complaints from women whose profile has been uploaded on Facebook and other sites with misleading and sometimes even damaging information about them. This is rampant in Mumbai and the victims have no recourse absolutely,” he said.
It is because of these complaints that he said he had asked the Department to see how these sites can be monitored and said that if necessary, they should be blocked.
“I have recommended, but whether it is possible or not is for them to look into,” he said.
