Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has threatened to take severe action against officers not acting against illegal mining in the State. “They will have to follow the directives. If they do not, they will be hanged,” he said while speaking to media persons after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The Mines & Geology Department has recently closed down two mines – one at Caurem and the other at Gavnem – as the operators did not have the necessary permissions.
However, locals complained that though the department had ordered closure, the mines were still being operated.
The Chief Minister said if the villagers’ complain is found to be true, the concerned officers will be taken to task.
