Taking cognizance of the partisan politics being played by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in unduly supporting Valanka Alemao – PWD Minister Churchill Alemao’s daughter – for the upcoming Goa Pradesh Youth Congress election and based on a complaint filed by some Goa Pradesh Youth Congress members to Indian Youth Congress office in Delhi; the Election Commissioner in-charge of Goa, Prakash Joshi has issued a show-cause notice to Valanka Alemao asking her to reply on ‘Why she should not be debarred from contesting the upcoming elections’.
The notice clearly states that its seeks explanation from the candidate Valanka Alemao on her usage of the ministerial office of her father to garner support from other ministers and MLAs; and also the utilization of the Chief Ministers power and authority to further impress upon the MLAs and ministers to get their Congress Youth members to vote for her; which is a violation of the Election Code of Conduct.
The notice also mentions the meeting called for by the Chief Minister and GPCC President Subash Shirodkar at Nanutel in which MLAs and politicians namely Mauvin Godinho, Babu Azgaonkar and Vijai Sardesai were asked to ensure that Valanka receives all the support to win the coveted President post of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress.
The Election Commissioner is to take a decision on the disqualification within the next two days; it is awaiting the reply to the notice from the candidate.
When GoaChronicle.com spoke to senior representatives of the Indian Youth Congress office in Delhi, we learnt that Rahul Gandhi and team members were extremely disappointed in the actions of Valanka Alemao, who voiced her opinion about fighting youth elections in a democratic way but chose to use the good offices of the Chief Minister to do something completely against the code of conduct of the Indian Youth Congress elections. And the complaint filed by other Goa Pradesh Youth Congress members further confirmed the fact that indeed Churchill Alemao was using undue pressure tactics to get his daughter to win.
