Colva police have been accused of stealing a whopping Rs 4.22 lakh along with 2000 US Dollars, 3000 UK Pounds and a camera worth Rs 50,000 from a vehicle that was involved in an accident under the guise of investigations. However, higher ups while ordering an enquiry into the complaint opined that there were too many loose ends in it.
One Sean Demont in his complaint has stated that Colva police personnel picked him up from his residence at Lotus Hermitage at around 11:15 pm after his vehicle was involved in an accident 15 minutes earlier on the road leading to Benaulim beach.
He further said that when he was being taken for a medical examination, two police personnel took his car key from him. Sean Demont has accused the Colva police of taking the money kept in his car without issuing any receipt for the same and demanded that the same be returned to him immediately. He also stated that the police did not conduct any panchanama while attaching his vehicle.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar opined that the complaint does not appear to be genuine. He admitted that police had gone to the complainant’s residence as two people were injured in the accident.
However, he has asked Police Inspector Tushar Vernekar who heads the Colva Police Station to conduct an enquiry.
