Comba Wells Polluted By Hydrocarbons

Six months after the authorities woke up to the fact that the wells in Comba were polluted the National Institute of Oceanography in its reports has said that the water from the wells contains aliphatic hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

However, the source of the pollution is yet to be identified although BITS Pilani in a study conducted earlier had said that it could be due to iron bacteria.
Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes who had roped in the NIO to conduct the study, said that since the report is too technical, he has forwarded it a hydrologist to suggest what action the authorities should take.
