Goa Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai on Monday informed State Legislative Assembly that appointment of Chairman of Sub-Committee to prpare comprehensive agriculture policy was under consideration of the government.
In a written reply to a question asked by Congress MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, the minister said the Goa Agricultural Policy was to be prepared in two parts — for Agriculture and for Animal Husbandry and Dairy — by respective Sub-Committees.
The draft Agricultural Policy document prepared by the Sub-Committee for Agriculture was submitted to the Chairman of the Sub-Committee Advocate Narendra Sawaikar who had subsequently resigned.
“The Committee to prepare Comprehensive Agriculture Policy for the State of Goa was constituted on August 9, 2012 The Chairman of the Sub-Committee of Agriculture Advocate Narendra Sawaikar has resigned on March 10, 2014 and since then, the Committee is without a Chairman. The appointment of a new Chairman is under consideration of the Government,” he said, adding the Draft Agriculture Policy document was not yet approved by the Committee.
Four members from Sub-Committee for Animal Husbandry and Dairy had retired. The members who had retired were Dr Benjamin Braganza, Managing Director, Goa Meat Complex, Usgao, Dr Dattaraj Naik, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dr Ernest D’ Costa, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and Dr Shrikant Naik, Goa Milk Producers Union, Ponda, he added.
