Con cops struck again on Thursday at three different places in Goa luring women to part with gold ornaments totally valued at over Rs. 1.70 lakhs.
Posing as police personnel the duo first struck in Margao at Aquem Alto where they accosted Mohini Chodankar at around 11:40 am when she was returning home after purchasing vegetables. One of the persons told Mohini that his senior officer would like to talk to her and when she met the “officer” he cautioned her about thefts and asked her to remove her gold ornaments, which he proceeded to wrap in a kerchief and handed back to her. However, when Mohini opened the kerchief later on, she found that it did not have her gold ornaments.
According to the complaint lodged by her at the Margao Town Police station, the duo were speaking Hindi.
Later in the afternoon at around 3 pm one Shashikala Masurker who was waiting at the Mapusa court for a Pernem bound was accosted by a person posing as a CID officer who advised her to remove her gold ornaments in view of increasing thefts.
After Shashikala heeded his advice, he proceeded to wrap the ornaments valued at around Rs. 55,000. in a cloth and handed it over to her. However, instead of her gold ornaments, the cloth had a metal plate and a stone,
Later in the evening an elderly lady from Vasco was relieved of her gold ornaments in a similar manner.
Incidentally this modus operandi is being used in Goa for the last many days and in Thursday’s incident was the second in Margao and third in Mapusa in the last 10 days.
