Cong candidate K Muraleedharan allegedly attacked by RSS activists

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress candidate K Muraleedharan contesting the Nemom Assembly Constituency in Kerala was allegedly attacked by RSS activists on Monday night.

Mr Muraleedharan and his supporters were attacked when they visited a few houses near Studio Road in Vellayani to request voters to cast their votes for the Congress party, party sources said.

The car, in which K Muraleedharan travelled has been damaged in the incident.

Congress workers, including Youth Congress State Secretary Nemom Sajeer and Nemom block Secretary Vivek were also injured in the attack.

RSS workers alleged that the Congress candidate was trying to influence voters by offering money.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) candidate V Sivankutty alleged that RSS was trying to disrupt peaceful election process fearing the defeat of the BJP candidate.

Mr Muraleedharan representing the Vadakara Lok Sabha seat, was fielded against former BJP State President and Ex-Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan as part of the Congress electoral strategy to win against the BJP’s lone seat in the State.

In the previous Assembly election held in 2016, BJP’s senior leader O Rajagopal won the Nemom seat.
