Panjim: The Congress in Goa on Tuesday demanded that the Centre reconsider its decision to put on hold the hike in dearness allowance (DA) for the year.
In a letter written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Urfan Mulla said,” We urge the government to withdraw their decision to stop paying Dearness Allowance (DA) and pay government employees as promised before and on regular interval.”
“As whole country is fighting with Covid_19 pandemic where the government departments like Police, Doctors, Teachers and so others, worked hard & made their efforts to fight against this deadly virus as much possible they can. The government instead of rewarding all its employees for their contribution is doing injustice with them.”
He also asked the government to consider the suggestion specified by Congress President Sonia Gandhi which would help the government to not to take any bashful decision in stop paying the employees their pay.
“She suggested the government to “Cancel the “self-indulgent” Rs 20,000 crore “beautification project” in the heart of Delhi, suspend official foreign tours and stop government ads”.
If this suggestion adopted by the government than we don’t think that it will necessary to deduct the increment of percentage in DA which will benefit lakhs of employees,” he said.
