The Congress Party in Goa on Wednesday demanded inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the killing of two tribal youth during Balli violence which took place on 25th May. The party felt that the Crime Branch would not be able to genuinely investigate into this sensitive case.
Addressing media persons, Congress Spokesman Mauvin Godinho said that it was not wise for the Government to hand over the investigation of this issue to the Crime Branch.
He further informed that the Congress has demanded CBI inquiry into the matter involving tribal agitation and killing of two youths. “We strongly believe that the local police would not be able to do justice to the investigation and it is a very serious issue,” he said.
He also felt that if police intelligence on 25th May had to be better, it would have helped avoid such a ghastly incident.
The Kamat-led Congress government has been drawing flak for mishandling the situation. United Tribals Associations Alliance (UTAA), which was spearheading the agitation, had demanded Judicial inquiry into the incident.
After initial reluctance, the state government has ordered judicial probe although it is yet to name the judge, who would head it.
