Congress dumbstruck, Independents take charge of Constructive Opposition

Taking on the Parrikar-led government sitting in the Opposition will be an uphill task for the nine Congress MLAs who since the election have remained mute spectators to various contentious issues and decisions taken by the current BJP government. However, it appears that the five independents including BJP backed independent MLA and Minister have unofficially decided to come together to form a group who will offer constructive opposition to the current Goa government.

Led by the Fatorda MLA – who until two months ago was the General Secretary of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) – feels that most of the current Congress leaders are afraid of taking on the role of opposition to Parrikar because of the numerous skeletons in their closet and that they will have to face the repercussions of their actions.

However, the unofficial group consisting of the Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva and Navelim MLA and Minister for Labour & Fisheries Avertano Furtado are coming together to work for the better governance and development of their constituency and the state. They have also raised concerns on the Mopa issue and have asked the government to explain its stand on the dual-airport system, when the government on ICAO report says that the two airport system will not be feasible.
