Congress leader demands union government to release of Rs 5000 cr as flood relief

Belagavi, Sep 14 (GCCurrentAffairs) Senior congress leader and Former Minister R V Deshpande urged the union government to immediately released five thousand crore rupees as interim relief to take up relief and rehabilitation works of the flood affected people in Karnataka state.

He was speaking with media persons after participate private program in Belagavi on Friday evening and said that, huge losses, damage to infrastructure while the estimate flood damage had been pegged up at Rs 38,000 crore due to the recent deluge.

The chief minister B S Yeddiyurappa himself had given the figures and sought for adequate relief. However the center had not released any money for taking up relief despite the state had suffered huge devastation Deshpande alleged .

Crops had damaged in larges tracts of land farmers were in distress, besides this number of animal and human deaths were reported besides damage to infrastructure and public infrastructure including to bridges, school buildings which warrant for the central assistance. He said.

During the period of UPA government which was in power had just not confined to release funds under the National Disaster Response and State Disaster Response Fund instead had also provided special grants for different departments to restoration of their infrastructure both the state and central government are expected to act in the same lines.

People of the state were actually in deep distress as the rain and flood had inflicted lot of miseries. Despande said 25 BJP MP’s elected in the state, who had failed to pressurize the government for releasing the interim relief but they submitting a memorandum was just not enough.he said.

Asking a question related, KPCC President, Deshpande said there would be not be change and no proposal at present.he said.
