Panaji: Several Goa Congress leaders, including Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Vice President, were detained on Friday night after they staged a protest in front of a hotel in the city after they were denied permission to meet Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javadekar.
As the Union Minister was in the city to attend series of meetings on the new farm bilss, Congress leaders led by GPCC Vice President Sakalp Amonkar wanted to meet him and sought appointment. But as they were denied permission, the Congress leaders who also included Janardan Bhandari, Varad Mardolkar, Advocate Archit Naik, Meghashyam Raut and Sudin Naik shouted slogans and showed black flgs.
The Congress leaders were detained by the police and taken to Panaji Police Station.
According to Goa Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar, they wanted to meet the Union Minister and question him about his alleged silence over the issue of Mhadei.
The incident attracted sharp criticism from the Congress leaders in the state who termed it as manifestation of ‘Jungle Raj’.
