Congress MLAs demand scrapping of RP 2021

While the Opposition Party has been relatively quiet on the Regional Plan 2021; two MLAs and one minister of the Congress-led government in the state have demanded for the scrapping of the RP 2021 and they feel it is not in the best interest of the people of this state.

The opposition towards the RP 2021 coming within the Congress party has come from the Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao, former finance minister and current MLA of Aldona Dayanand Narvekar and Curtorim MLA Reginald Alexio Laurenco.

Raising their concerns with All India Congress Committee, national secretary and Desk In-Charge, Jagmeet Singh Brar; Narvekar said the notified RP-2021 contained more problems and flaws than the scrapped RP-2011. Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco also brought to Brar’s notice various irregularities in the notified RP-2021. Stating that areas which were designated as settlement were turned into orchard zones, while orchard zones were now shown as settlement areas in the new plan, Lourenco urged Brar “to do something” over the matter before it turned into an election issue.

PWD minister Churchill Alemao is also learnt to have come out in support of the demand at the meeting. Sources said that requests made by some MLAs for change of zones to settlement, had not been agreed to by the chief minister.
