Congress stalemate on GPCC President continues

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) continues to be confused over the appointment of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president even after nearly a year since the party suffered a humiliating loss which saw the backs of many Congress veteran politicians at the Goa Assembly Elections 2012.

Sources in AICC told that yesterday the AICC senior leaders did spend some time discussing the issues of Goa and the strategy to considered for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Polls in 2014, however, when the issues of the party president was discussed, many continued to draw a blank, mainly because of the fear of upsetting powerful lobbies rooting for a particular candidate.

While South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha is emerging as the hot favorite to take-over the party reigns from the now acting President Subash Shirodkar, who resigned on account of the Elections 2012 debacle but was asked to continue to hold charge till a successor was appointed; has learnt that the party president position will come to him at the cost of the MP ticket; which is seeing a strong contender in Churchill Alemao and dark horse Girish Chodankar.

Also in the race for party president position are Jitendra Deshprabhu, Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco and Mauvin Godinho (which is expected to surprise a lot of the fellow Congressmen in the state), since many feel that Godinho has been hob-knobbing more with the Parrikar-led government and some hold him responsible for the Cortalim fiasco.
