The Congress on Friday said that it is in the process of working out strategic alliances with other opposition parties with the objective to defeat BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabaha elections, top party sources said here on Friday.
Sources said that all the opposition parties understand that strategic alliances are a must to “defeat” the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Maintaining that the Congress party was open to alliances with like minded parties in various states, the sources exuded confidence that if the party worked out the alliances well, then “we will be able to defeat the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019”.
“The Congress party is open to alliances with like minded parties. Our role is to bring anti-BJP and anti-RSS forces on a single platform. If we work out the alliances properly, we will be able to defeat Mr Modi in 2019,” the sources said.
The sources, however, said the party may not ally with parties whose “DNA does not match with that of Congress party”.
“We may not ally with parties whose DNA does not match that of our party,” the source said in an indication that the grand old party is not inclined to go for an alliance with the BJP’s ‘disgruntled’ ally Shiv Sena.
The party leadership is also apparently not in favour of joining hands with Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP.
The sources also said that the alliances in each state would be worked out in consultation with the state units, thus ruling out an alliance with the Aam Aadmi party in Delhi.
