Constable Dies, Seniors In Dock

Police Constable Chandru Gawas who consumed poison while on duty died on Tuesday evening at Goa Medical College hospital where he was shifted from a private clinic.
The 33 year old constable who was posted as driver at the Crime Branch has reportedly claimed harassment by senior officers including one Deputy Superintendent of Police as the cause for attempting suicide.
In his dying declaration given to Special Judicial Magistrate Maria Mascarenhas, Gawas has reportedly claimed harassment at work by DySP Chandrakant Salgaonkar and Police Inspectors Sunita Sawant and Pravin Vast as reasons why he took the extreme step.
Gawas who was scheduled to get married on 9th July consumed ‘Ratol’ while on duty on 24th June and was admitted to a private hospital after he began vomiting continuously and was later shifted to GMC on Monday as his condition was deteriorating.
While police have registered a case of attempted suicide against Gawas, North Goa Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas said if necessary another case will be booked against the officers responsible for his death.
