‘Constitution respected on Constitution Day, we welcome SC order’, Cong, Sena, NCP on Mah


New Delhi, Nov 26 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s order to conduct floor test in Maharashtra assembly tomorrow and demanded Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s resignation.

Moments after the apex court verdict, senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that all the three parties are satisfied with the Supreme Court order.

Stating that the Constitution respected on Constitution Day, Mr Chavan added, “Devendra Fadnavis should resign today”.

AICC communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala termed the Supreme Court order was a ‘slap on an illegitimate BJP-Ajit Pawar government, who had hijacked the mandate.

“Supreme Court’s decision is a slap on an illegitimate BJP –Ajit Pawar government, who had hijacked the ‘mandate’. Those who sought to avoid the ‘floor test’ to rule by stealth and deception stand exposed. A government founded on fraud has been defeated on Constitution Day”, he tweeted.

Responding to the verdict, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who has represented the Congress and the NCP, said that the Supreme Court has given a gift to the nation on the Constitution day.

“By hook or by crook, more by crook and less by hook, anything is possible for this desperation and lust for power is what the BJP has demonstrated. I think they have brought a bad name for democracy, and we are very grateful that the Supreme Court, on the Constitution day has given a gift to the nation, that the precious Constitutional values we have”, he said.

In a tweet, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar welcomed the Supreme Court order, “I am grateful to Supreme Court for upholding democratic values and Constitutional principles. It’s heartening that the Maharashtra verdict came on the Constitution Day, a tribute to Bharatratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar”.

Welcoming the order the Shiv Sena tweeted, “Satyamev Jayate! We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court today. The leadership of Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress and allies will soon prove majority and give Maharashtra a stable government”.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed members of the Maharashtra assembly to take oath at 1100 hrs and at 1700 hrs, the Pro-term Speaker to hold floor test.

The Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena had approached the Supreme Court on Saturday against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyary’s decision to appoint BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis’s as Chief Minister and NCP’s Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister.
