New York: The number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States topped 50,000, reaching 50,031, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 870,468 cases have been reported in the country, according to the CSSE on Friday.
The state of New York suffered the most, with 263,460 cases and 20,982 deaths.
In other hardest-hit states, New Jersey reported 5,426 fatalities, Michigan reported 2,977 deaths and Massachusetts recorded 2,360 deaths, the data showed.
The United States leads the world in the number of reported COVID-19 deaths and confirmed cases. There are almost 2.8 million COVID-19 cases worldwide and close to 196,000 deaths, according to the data.
