COVID-19: UNESCO says 1.5 bln students affected worldwide

Paris, Mar 30 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected education of children worldwide as more than 1.5 billion students are unable to attend schools and universities, said the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Monday.
A UNESCO tweet claimed “More than 1.5 billion students around the world are not attending school due to the new #coronavirus,” .
UN data claims that over 160 countries have enforced nationwide closures of educational institutions due to which more than 87 percent of the world’s student population has been affected.
Latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University confirm that the coronavirus has infected more than 720,000 people globally out of whom 152,042 have recovered and 34,018 have died.
In order to contain the spread of the virus nations of the world are implementing social distancing measures, for the purpose of education; tools such as distance learning are being implemented.
