Goa Chief Secretary Parimal Rai has directed the Director General of Police Pranab Nanda and the Additional Secretary Home Amarsen Rane to take necessary action on the complaints filed by Adv. Aires Rodrigues over the alleged unlawful and illegal security provided by the Goa Police to Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni and former Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar.
In his complaint to the Chief Secretary, Adv. Rodrigues had pointed out that in an unprecedented, very high-handed and arbitrary decision the Goa Government by an order dated 20th September 2017 bestowed ‘Z’security cover to Atmaram Nadkarni.
Drawing the Chief Secretary’s attention that Atmaram Nadkarni over the last two years has been having a security of around 22 police personnel around the clock which includes an escort vehicle, Adv. Rodrigues in his letter stated that this has been a huge financial burden on an already cash strapped State.
Adv. Rodrigues had further drawn the Chief Secretary’s attention that even the Solicitor General of India does not get ‘Z’ security and that the Solicitor General and other Additional Solicitor Generals are assigned only one Personal Security Officer (PSO).
In another complaint Adv. Rodrigues had pointed out to the Chief Secretary that the police continue providing security cover to the former Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar despite he having ceased to be a Minister on September 24th last year and that over the last one year Pandurang Madkaikar was enjoying a state sponsored security of around seven police personnel around the clock.
Adv. Rodrigues demanded that the illegal security cover provided to Atmaram Nadkarni and Pandurang Madkaikar be immediately withdrawn and that an inquiry be ordered as to how they were illegally given the security they are not entitled to. Adv. Rodrigues also sought that State government recover from Atmaram Nadkarni the total expenditure incurred on his police security over the last two years and from Pandurang Madkaikar for the last one year.
