Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs grilled Goa’s Education Minister for nearly four hours over the source of currency he was trying to take abroad on Saturday last. Although Babush was to report to the officials at 2:30 pm, he arrived at 4:30 in view of the Goa Legislative Assembly being in session.
According to reports published in a section of the media in Goa, the Customs officials are considering “adjudication” in the matter wherein the adjudicator will hear the Customs as well as Babush and accordingly decide upon the matter.
It may be recalled that Babush was asked to disembark from the flight he had already boarded last Saturday after huge amounts of currency including US Dollars, UAE Dirhams and Indian Rupees were found in his baggage.
It is learnt that Babush produced receipts from VKC Credit and Forex Services to show how he got the 25,000 USD which were in travelers cheque.
Though he reportedly showed a withdrawal of Rs. 10 lakhs which he claimed to be used to purchase the 75,000 UAE Dirhams which are worth around Rs. 9,86,000, the source from where the Dirhams were procured was not established.
