Agartala: A 38-year-old daily wager of bordering Naidun Jalbasar village of Panisagar in North Tripura committed suicide last evening allegedly due to pressure for repaying the loan he had taken from private individuals.
Police said, the body of Hiralal Das, a carpenter by profession, was found hanging in a forest near his residence.
The deceased was living with his wife and one son at his father-in-law’s house in Baruakandi for about a year.
The wife of the deceased said that her husband used to return home after work at evening but yesterday he did not turn up, after which they began searching for him.
After some time, they found him dead hanging from a tree nearby the house and reported to police.
She, however, mentioned that Hiralal had been under tremendous pressure for repaying a loan of few thousands he had borrowed during lockdown.
Besides this loan, he was under pressure to clear grocery bills in various shops in the locality but he could not manage the payment.
“He was depressed for the past few days for the unpaid loan as everybody wanted him to pay before Durga Puja but that couldn’t be done. The lenders set a new deadline for payment before Diwali. We have no regular income to pay the loan. He might have taken the extreme step seeing no way out”, the victim’s wife claimed.
However, police said an investigation has been launched into the incident.
