Land acquisition by the government and failure to tackle the garbage menace in the village dominated the Davorlim-Dicarpale Gram Sabha meeting held on Sunday with some villagers even accusing local MLA Churchill Alemao of not being bothered to address the actual issues of the village.
Davorlim-Dicarpale Sarpanch Francisco Colaco confessed that the Panchayat has not been able to find a suitable site for garbage disposal and added that efforts were still on to identify the site for treating garbage.
The villagers questioned the government’s proposal to acquire 1.15 lakhs square metres of land for a multi-purpose utility project when the panchayat’s need of land to treat the garbage is not being addressed.
One villager blamed the new buildings and their inhabitants for the garbage problem in the village and pointed out that the original inhabitants of the village took care of their garbage by treating it within their compound.
The villagers were also upset with trucks using the area near the Power House as a parking lot and suggested holding a protest at the junction.
