Panaji, Apr 2 (GCCurrentAffairs) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Joshua D’Souza for Mapusa and Dayanand Sopte for Mandrem Assembly by-elections filed their nominations before Returning Officers on Tuesday.
Both the candidates were accompanied by huge crowd when they went to file their nominations, indicating the strong support base they enjoy in their respective constituency.
At Mapusa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar, State General Secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavade, former minister Dayanand Mandrekar and several councilors walked with Mr Joshua to file his nomination.
At Mandrem, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant joined Mr Sopte to file the nomination paper. Hundreds of party supporters had gathered outside the office when Mr Sopte went to file the papers. However, former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was not present on the occasion.
The assembly by-elections are scheduled to be held on April 23, 2019.
