An autopsy conducted at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Thursday has revealed that Imtiyaz Malik-whose body was found floating in a river at Borim, Ponda, on Wednesday-was strangled to death. The post-mortem has also found that the 38-year-old man from Rumdamol, Margao, had been dead 4 to 5 days before his body was found.
The Ponda police have registered a murder case under Section 302 of the IPC. Stating that previous enmity could be the reason behind the murder, Ponda police inspector C L Patil said that the police suspect two Biharis. “They could have killed Malik and thrown his body into the river from the Loutolim side of the Borim Bridge, which was then washed away by the current and reached the ‘bundh’ in Borim,” the police said.
