Mumbai: Film producer Sandip Ssingh known for producing the Narendra Modi biopic starring Vivek Oberoi on Thursday served a defamation notice of Rs 200 crores damages to the Republic TV and its’ Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for airing false and defamatory content while covering the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
Ssandip Singh took on the role of a crisis manager immediately after the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput. In his own admission on TV interviews, Ssingh had stated that he was not in contact with Sushant Singh Rajput for over 10-months; yet he turned up on the day of death and was passing instruction to the police and ambulance as someone in charge without the concurrence of the family of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The notice alleged that Ssingh was informed by one of the channel’s correspondents that unless he considers to financially benefit Republic TV, Arnab would keep airing such news items.
The Advocate, representing the producer, averred that the sole motive for airing the malicious content was to extort money and grab TRP.
He told that Ssingh and late Rajput were known to each other from the days of their struggle and added that the channel also knew this fact.
The notice has asked the channel and Goswami to remove such footage, articles and release an unconditional apology in written or video form.
It has given 15 days time for them to do so or has warned taking the legal course in this regard.
