The National Highway Diversion Action Committee (NHDAC) will stage a dharna in front of the Entertainment Society of Goa office at Panjim where the International Film Festival is currently underway.
The purpose of this sit-in is to draw national and international attention to the problem said NHDAC convenor Sunil Dessai besides protesting against the government’s decision to invoke Section 3(d) of the Land Acquisition Act.
Dinesh Waghale pointed out the contradiction in Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s assurance that not a single inch of land will be acquired for the widening of the National Highway, while at the same time the government was invoking the Land Acquisition Act to acquire additional land.
While accusing Digambar Kamat of lying at every turn and corner, he said that as per information gathered through the Right to Information Act, the government will be acquiring 51.60 lakh square metres of land for widening the highways.
Nailing the chief minister further, they pointed out that the government proposes to only compensate land losers with land prices ranging from Rs. 10 per square metre to Rs. 150 per square metre.
