Panjim: In a new development that will shake the foundation of Congress in Goa and send shockwaves in Delhi, former BJP leader Digambar Kamat is likely to join the BJP and will most likely don the Chief Minister mantle for Goa.
This development has emerged on account of the failing and critical ill-health of current BJP Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Digambar Kamat was the former Chief Minister of Goa in the Congress, but prior to that he was the Finance Minister and senior leader of BJP in the state.
Kamat likely return to the BJP fold will be a ‘Ghar Wapsi’, revealed highly placed sources in BJP and close to Digambar Kamat.
Interestingly, BJP Core Committee has taken a resolution not to induct a non-BJP into the party at this and appoint the leader as Chief Minister, but choose from within the party. However, it appears that Digambar Kamat’s clout with BJP continues and is expected to join BJP with some more Congress MLAs in tow.
As I write, Digambar Kamat is on a flight to Delhi to meet with the Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.
GoaChronicle spoke with Digambar Kamat last evening, who chose remain, non-committal on any questions on any change in party or that he would become Chief Minister.
