Disappearance of Rs 164 Cr PWD scam accused minister put Tripura govt in trouble

Agartala, Oct 18 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Biplab Kumar Deb government in Tripura faced serious embarrassment after being failed to arrest Rs 164 Cr PWD scam accused the former minister of the Left Front and senior CPI (M) leader Badal Choudhury in last two days despite repeated search in all possible places by senior officers including DGP.

According to report, after suspension of Superintendent of Police West Tripura Ajit Pratap Singh and removed DIG of the range Arindam Nath and Investigating Officer of the case DSP Raju Reang for their failure to arrest Choudhury who had been in the intelligence radar of the state police, Chief Minister reviewed the progress of investigation till late night.

The disappearance of Choudhury from cordon has put the government in trouble about his security and health. The 73 years old Choudhury has been suffering from multiple ailments including heart disease and had gone for bypass surgery twice and still is under medication.

In such a situation, his disappearance for two days and passing days in a stressful situation has raised the eyebrows of the government.

And the police has been asked to go for time-bound action to find him out at any cost, said a senior official of the state administration.

None of the CPI (M) leaders and his family members has so far said anything about his location but repeatedly reminding his critical health condition.

However, the advocates of the accused minister and officials stated that the retired chief engineer Sunil Bhowmik who has been in the custody for last five days was not given proper food and amenities, which caused deterioration of his health.

Meanwhile, police said search operation to find out Badal Choudhury has been further intensified in outside the city and hopefully, police would able to arrest him very soon. The police also stated that custody of Choudhury has become essential for them to solve the allegations.

However, the newly appointed SP (West Tripura) Manik Lal Das and Investigating Officer of the case Ajoy Das have already resumed the charge and started working since last night but so far they could not able to achieve the success. The police authority has not yet been able to explain how Choudhury could manage to escape from the security cordon at late night.
