Nationalist Congress Party legislator Micky Pacheco whose proposed induction in the State cabinet has triggered a political crisis in Goa, on Monday dared the Congress to dissolve the House and go for a fresh mandate.
Speaking to media persons after All India Congress Committee General Secretary in charge of Goa B K Hariprasad declared that he cannot be inducted, Micky opined that the statement was against the principles of a coalition government.
“Who is Hariprasad to decide upon this issue which is a matter pertaining to the NCP?” he asked pointing out that he had resigned from the cabinet upon instructions from his party leadership which now wants him to re-instated as a minister.
He argued that in coalition politics, the views and suggestions of coalition partners have to be accepted.
However, Micky suggested that dissolution of the House and seeking a fresh mandate from the people, would be the best option in the present circumstances.
He expressed confidence of the NCP bagging more than 20 seats on its own to be a in a position to form the next government in Goa.
He also asserted that he would contest from the newly carved Nuvem constituency and added that he has so much support in that constituency that he will be free to canvass for NCP candidates in other constituencies as his victory from Nuvem was a foregone conclusion.
Replying to a question on the likelihood of a split in the NCP, he said it was for his party leadership to deal with such issues and expressed confidence in his party leadership to take the correct decision.
