Diu land lease not yet renewed by Goa Govt: Sardesai
The total area of the leased land is 1,10,000 sqmts. And it was leased to the Goa government for a period of 90 years, with a renewal process every 30 years. The land came into position of the Goa-IDC in 1982. “The government had time till July 29, 2012 to renew the lease, but the Goa government only sent its application on July 31, 2012 which has been rejected by the Diu Collector, Kishan Kumar, on account of the delay,” revealed Sardesai.
He further asserted that the government owed an explanation to the people of Goa on what were the reasons to this serious lapse which could result in loss of prime land in Diu, close to the airport, with a current land rate value of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per sqmts.
Sardesai also alleged that maybe that it was done to pander vested interested, because the Gujarat-Goa BJP connection cannot be overlooked on such matters.
