Even while the fires on the irregularities on the Mapusa Hospital continues to rage, Vishwajeet Rane known for his proximity to real estate developers, is emerging as one of the hidden players of what is touted as being one of the biggest land scams in Goa under the guise of Special Economic Zone development.
While the Public Accounts Committee has been non-committal about his role in the allotting of land to key real estate developers since he was not officially in the government at that time there is no denial that there could be his involvement.
On strict condition on anonymity a member on Goa –IDC board who is also one of the co-accused in this scam, stated that it is not only people on the board responsible for the allotment of the land. “We had received a letter from then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane favoring a particular real estate developer. We know that it was on insistence of his son”, he said. But since there is no documentary evidence on the same, the matter will go under the table.
Yet another director on the board and a member of the legislative assembly also commented that in both the K Raheja’s and Peninsula SEZ land deal there were strong recommendations coming in from Vishwajeet Rane.
Vishwajeet Rane is well-known for his land deals in Goa, among the most notorious of these land deals is the sale of 28,95,100 sq ms to Gold Resorts and Hotel Private Limited in Canacona. A report of the Registrar of the Bombay High Court confirms the direct involvement of Vishwajeet Rane along with the former local MLA of Poinguinim, Isidore Fernandes, in the mega land deal.
Vishwajit Rane is also alleged to have brokered the sale of land to the Rahejas in Ribander. The benami companies with which Vishwajeet Rane is involved involve Handsel Private Limited, Palmyra Realtors, Golden View Realtors and Marco Polo Estates Pvt Ltd, all of which show Kamat Kinara, Vishwajeet Rane’s residence, as the address of the registered office of the companies and whose principal share holder is Vishwajeet’s wife, Divya Rane.
