The long reach of the drug mafia in Goa has come to fore once again with a crucial witness in the Dudu case complaining to the Anti Narcotic Cell that he was threatened with dire consequences if he did not withdraw from the case.
The witness whose identify has been protected, has reportedly asked for police protection as he fears for not only his life but that of his family members too.
According to the complaint, the witness was threatened by two persons on a motorcycle who accosted him while he was going home and asked him to withdraw from the case.
It may be recalled that David Driham alias Dudu was arrested in February 2011 from his house in Anjuna and police had recovered a cocktail of drugs from him which included 144 Ecstasy tables worth Rs 1.10 lakhs, five grams of heroin worth Rs 15,000, 6.5 grams of cocaine worth Rs 30,000 and 7.3 grams of liquor LSD worth Rs 1.10 lakhs along with 1.165 grams of charas.
Dudu who has been languishing in the jails since then was earlier in the news for uploading his facebook account while housed in the jail and apparently destroyed the mobile used for this purpose when the authorities tried to seize it.
More recently, he has hit the news thanks to the sting operation carried out by his sister Alaya and girlfriend Zarina which showed Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Gudlar selling drugs to them and also boasting of bribery in the department.
Although Alaya and Zarina claimed that they were commissioned by a media house from Israel to carry out the sting operations, police are probing the duo to find out whether they have links with the drug mafia and whether the operation was orchestrated by the drug lords themselves.
