Kolkata: The Election Commission has suspended a Sector Officer after some EVMs were found outside the house of a TMC leader under Uluberia north assembly seat in poll bound Howrah district late last night, official sources said.
They said several sealed EVMs were found kept outside the house of TMC leader Gautam Ghosh.
When the police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officials rushed to the spot Sector Officer said, “By the time we reached the Sector Office, it was closed by the CAPF. Later, my Assistant Sector Officer said we can keep it with our relatives. I did not know that he is a TMC leader.”
They said the EVMs were reserve machines.The EC has removed the EVMs from the election process.
A state police officer was driven out of the polling booth at Jangipara by BJP candidate Debjit Sarkar as the latter said the state police personnel had no business inside the polling station.
The incident happened at DM High school at Jangipara where the BJP contestant also alleged that the police official had objected the presence of the BJP polling agent inside the booth as he had a saffron colour shirt.
A latest report said that up to 9 am about 14.62 pc vote was polled in the first two hours in all
31 seats in three districts of Howrah, South 24 Parganas and Hooghly.
While South 24 Parganas district had recorded 12.81 pc, Hooghly as high as 17.35 pc and 15.52 pc in Howrah
