Saturday morning dawned on Goa with a festive air as Hindus and Muslims celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi and Eid-ul-Fitr, the main festivals for each of them.
Early morning, muslims were seen making a bee-line to the mosques, dressed in their best clothes specially purchased or stitched for the occasion.
At Margao, the namaz at the idgah – ground for Eid namaz – situated at Pajifond had to be cancelled dur to rains. However, all the other mosques were packed for the prayers as not only muslims from Margao but also from other parts of Salcete, where there are no prayer halls available for them, descended upon Margao.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who shares a common wall with the mosque at Malbhat greeted Goans on this occasion. Governor of Goa Dr. S S Sidhu and Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar also sent their wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr.
