Minister for Women and Child Development Ravi Naik said that educating women and girl child can be a very important tool which can contribute towards the development of the country, while speaking at the Woman’s Day function organized by Directorate of Women and Child Development at Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Ground, Curti-Ponda on Tuesday.
Naik said that Goan women have played a crucial role in different fields and professions over the years and they also play an important role in Government’s efforts for inclusive growth.
On this occasion, eight women were honoured with the prestigious ‘Yashadamini Awards 2011’. The recipients of the awards were Krishni Krishna Walke, Aparnadevi Rane Sardessai, Priyanka Vijay Rane, Rupa Prabhakar Kerkar, Gulab Anil Vernekar , Ashwini Shashikant Jambaulikar, Sachika Almeida and Pushpal Dhaimodkar.
Many other women were also honoured for their contribution in different fields which included Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Susana de Souza, Director of Prosecution Shobha Dhumaskar, Labour Commissioner Fatima Rodrigues, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Foreigners Branch) Reena Torcato, Chief Architect (PWD, Panjim) Radha Pamnani, Radha Bhave, Sanjay School for Special Education Anyassia Viegas, Advocate Deepa Singbal, Social Worker Mangla Zamble, , EX-CDPO Shailaja Borkar, Ex-nurse Florina Fernandes, Satyawati s. Naik, social workers Amita Kashinath Verelkar, Rubina Tashiladar, Nayan G. S. Parkar, Rasika Tilve, Nayan Priolkar, Vijaya Dattu Gaude, Aruna Khandeparkar and Surat Raikar.
