English Gets Centre’s Nod

The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal has reportedly given the nod to English as a medium of instruction at the primary school level.
Sibal has reportedly informed Chief Minister Digambar Kamat that if parents want English as a medium of instruction then the State will have to provide it.

While asserting that the Centre has no role to play, the Union Minister has reportedly made it very clear that the decision has to be taken by the State government.
He has also clarified that the Right To Education Act merely recommends that as far as possible, the medium of instruction shall be in the child’s mother tongue and that it is not mandatory that the medium of instruction should be in the mother tongue.
