Ex Goa Assembly Dy Speaker Vishnu Wagh passes away

Panaji, Feb 14 (GCCurrentAffairs) Former Goa Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Vishnu Surya Wagh passed away at Cape Town in South Africa on February 8, 2019.

In an audio message, Aruna, wife of Wagh, informed that his husband had passed away when he was on a tour to Cape Town in South Africa along with his family members as per his wish.

Mortal remains of the former MLA are expected to reach Goa on February 14. Wagh, a noted poet and a journalist, had suffered a heart attack on August 15, 2016, while attending a programme at Kala Academy in the city. Though he survived the heart attack but was bed-ridden.

He was in Congress for 14 years and later shifted to Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2012 he was elected as an MLA from St Cruz Assembly constituency. He had also held posts of Chairman of Kala Academy and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).

The noted writer and orator had started his journalism from English daily Newslink, published from Belgaum, Karnataka. Later he worked for dailies which included Tarun Bharat, Gomantak Times, Pudhari and Gomantak.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar mourned the demise of the former legislator.

In a tweet, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, ‘With a heavy heart we pray for Late Vishnu Surya Wagh, Former Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Ex MLA St. Andre & eminent poet who is no more with us. His work and love towards #Goa will always be remembered. We pray for his eternal soul to rest in peace.’

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said, ‘Disheartening to learn sad demise of Multifaceted personality #VishnuWagh. Goa lost intelligent & brave Son,I lost most loving friend & guide. We worked together in ⁦@IYCGoa⁩ under his leadership, I join his bereaved family in the time of distress. May His SoulRest in Peace.’
