Panjim: The Office of the Commissioner of Excise has ordered for sealing of all premises, bonds,
godowns of wholesaler and manufacturing units till the end of Lockdown to prevent any attempt by any anti-social elements to sell liquor in clandestine manner.
According to a statement, Superintendent of Excise and Excise Inspectors have been directed to seal the premises or godowns bonds of all units, wholesalers till lockdown period.
If any complaint against retailers was received, similar action would be taken against them.
“Excise Inspector are conducting regular surprise inspections in their jurisdictions daily and are also acting swiftly on all information received. So far, the department has booked 11 cases since the beginning of the lockdown and has suspended licenses of the accused licensees,” the statement said.
It said on April 19, 2020, on receipt of an information regarding illegal sale of liquor by a packed bottle licensee of Mormugao from his residence, Excise Department conducted raid and seized 319 cases of liquor worth Rs nine lakh.
Excise Department had already issued circular for the closure of all types of licenses including manufacturing till the end of lockdown and has asked all its officers to increase vigil at the check posts, jetties and other sensitive areas, the statement added.
