The Vigilance Department on Tuesday finally filed a First Information Report against Housing Minister Nilkant Halarnkar for his alleged involvement in a land scam at Colvale. Halarnkar has welcomed this development claiming that the investigations will reveal the truth.
According to Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Bosco George, a case under Sections 409 and 34 for criminal breach of trust by public servant and act done in furtherance of common interest, has been filed against the minister.
It may be recalled that activists Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar had moved the court seeking directions to the police to register the case.
The charge against Nilkant is that he as chairman of the Goa Housing Board allotted land to a trust headed by him while also leasing Goa Housing Board land to a hotel management institute without checking its antecedents.
Twenty three thousand square metres of land were allotted to the trust headed by Nilkant at a price of Rs 1,000 square metres even though the land is valued at Rs 4,000 per square metres, alleged the activists.
