The Fabet Castell unit at Corlim was totally gutter by a fire that raged for nearly 12 hours reducing the plant to ashes and the losses are yet to be estimated. Fortunately there was no casualty as the fire broke out when the plant was closed for Diwali holiday.
Although the fire is believed to have started at around 4:30 am on Saturday, it was noticed only at 6:30 am by workers at the adjacent plant who saw thick smoke billowing out of the plant and accordingly fire services were called in.
10 fire tenders from Old Goa, Ponda, Kundaim, Panjim, Mapusa, Bicholim and Pernem rushed to the site to douse the fire and completed their operations only at 4:30 pm. Earlier the fire tender of nearby Syngeta factory rushed to the site but the task was too gigantic for it to handle.
The plant was manufacturing crayon colours and Fabell pen packings.
