First case under new law against Love-Jihad registered in UP

Bareilly: First case under the new anti-conversion law or Love Jihad was registered here at Derania police station area on Saturday night when a girl alleged forceful conversion for marriage.

Police said that the FIR was registered under the new sections of the anti-conversion law on the application from the father of a girl.

The accused youth of different religion was on the run.

The application alleged that the youth was pressuring the girl to adopt his religion for the marriage. Both the girl and the boy were friends since childhood.

SSP, in-charge, Dr. Sansar Singh said the FIR was registered against the youth under the new anti-conversion law.

Meanwhile, the second case under this new law also came from Ijjatnagar police station in Bareilly, when a woman registered a case against a youth for covering up his religion before the marriage.

Though the case was filed on Friday, the police converted it into the new law on Saturday.

The woman alleged that the youth married him at a temple by not disclosing his religion in November 2019 and even forced him to abort her pregnancy.

The youth and his family were on the run after the woman filed the police case.
