First Prachi Desai, Now Deepika Padukone on cards to promote Goa

In keeping with a common political adage of continuity of governance from one political party to another, following in the footsteps of the erstwhile Congress government on what many tourism professionals claim was a waste of tax-payers money, BJP government is yet again in talks with Bollywood filmstars and cricketers to be brand ambassadors to promote Goa nationally and internationally.

Congress government had appointed Prachi Desai from a rumored amount of Rs 2.75 crore, though the actual on-paper for her services was around 1.5 crore. This time round the BJP government has received an proposal from leading Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and the tourism minister in his recent statement has stated that the proposal will be considered by the committee set-up to look into this tourism brand development matters.

While confirming that they have received a couple of proposals from different film personalities as well cricketers, tourism minister Dilip Parulekar said the ministry has not taken any decision on the matter as yet.

“We have not approached anyone but we have received some proposals. A proposal has been received from the public relations office of model-turned-actor Deepika Padukone,” he said.

All the proposals will be vetted by the empanelled advertising agencies of the tourism department before finalizing a name, he said.

“We expect tourism growth to be 12-15 per cent going by the assessment of various tour and travel agencies,” he added.
