Five Bengal BJP leaders move Supreme Court

West Bengal: Five leaders from the Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arjun Singh, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Pawan Singh, Sourav Singh, Mukul Roy and Kabir Shankar Bose have approached the Supreme Court alleging witch-hunt by the West Bengal Police at the behest of ruling Trinamool Congress Party. They have sought transfer of all cases registered against them by West Bengal police to any other “independent” investigating agency.

The lead petitioner Arjun Singh who has moved the Court through Advocate Avantika Manohar has stated that right after he resigned from Trinamool Congress, he was slapped with 64 cases by the Bengal police without any preliminary enquiry.

Citing crude bomb attacks faced by Singh at the hands of “TMC members ” in which his son was also injured, the BJP leader from Bengal claims that the local police refused to lodge an FIR on his complaint and that he was compelled to approach the Chief Judicial Magistrate for remedy.

The plea states that the “purposive prosecution” carried on by West Bengal police against Singh has denied him of liberty without following the due process of law.

Singh has alleged that the West Bengal police is acting at the behest of the ruling political party and serving their “personal and political interests.”

Another BJP leader Kabir Shankar Bose who has moved the Court through Advocate Sameer Kumar states that he was “was deliberately and intentionally kept in a Covid isolation ward along with other Covid patients for around 4 hrs in utter violation of his right to life guaranteed under Article 21 of the constitution of India.”

Bose has called himself a victim of extreme torture, repression, and political vendetta by the State Government of West Bengal.

Bose who was married to TMC leader Kalyan Banerji’s daughter states that after he filed for divorce, multiple cases have been lodged against him at the behest of Banerji and the influence he yields on the police administration.

Bose further states that there is a concerted approach of the State Government to “silence the voice of the opposition before the upcoming elections by registering bogus cases against the member of opposition BJP using the police personnel who are under their direct control.”
