Bhopal, Oct 16 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Madhya Pradesh Government on Wednesday urged an Inter-Ministerial Central Team to ensure assistance of Rs 6,621 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund to offset losses caused owing to excessive precipitation and consequent floods.
Of 149.35 lakh hectares of Kharif crop, 60.52 lakh ha were affected thereby impacting the lives of approximately 55.36 lakh cultivators; about 11,000 km roads are in need of repair and 1.2 lakh dwellings sustained damage.
The team, led by Joint Secretary (Home) SK Shahi, visited 15 districts and was informed that the state received 43 per cent more than average rainfall in the period June 1 to September 30. About 75,000 people were evacuated to 289 relief camps and other safe places. A total 19,958 buildings of the School Education and Tribal Affairs departments; 17,106 of Women and Child Development and 2,923 of the Rural Development Department were harmed. Similarly, 2,398 water supply structures were hit. Work on buildings alone will require Rs 2,285.88 cr, an official release said.
