I am no one to judge anyone’s choice of watching or not watching a Bollywood movie. I, of course, have my own inhibitions about Bollywood movies.
My prime reason for not watching most Bollywood movies is that I feel, most of the content to be poor, repetitive, and lacking intellectual stimulation for my taste.
More so, I believe Bollywood to be a cartel of vicious businesswomen and men who have become global icons but lack inherent values of humanity. Even their acts of humanity are an act of show for the glossy media pages.
Having said that though, I will not comment on the movie ‘Radhe’ because I have not seen it and will not see it because today in our society there are more concerning issues than watching ‘Radhe’
So when the Kingpin of Bollywood Salman Khan puts out a tweet saying and while I agree with him that piracy of movies and books must be banned. I thought to myself that would a spend of Rs 249 to watch his new movie Radhe be well spent in these troubled times of a surging health crisis in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am not a fan of Salman Khan but there are many fans of Salman Khan and they love him for their own reasons. I am sure they will watch ‘Radhe’. Some strangely after watching the movie by paying Rs 249 will start wailing about the fact that people in India will have to pay for the vaccine.
It is sad but true that most of us Indians in our want for escapism and a fascination with unreality would rather watch a Radhe than go out to assist many who do not have access to vaccines or medicines in this time of a global health crisis. Many Indians are suffering and dying. I personally, do not think Bollywood is the antidote to the coronavirus spreading across India and neither is it a balm to calm the nerves in a tense time. It is at best an avoidable distraction.
I do not know if the proceeds earned by the movie ‘Radhe’ would go towards helping those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am sure Salman’s NGO ‘Being Human’ would do its bit to show the world. Even then I would not spend my money on watching ‘Radhe’ because to me it would be an indulgence at this time.
You could argue with me that a Bollywood movie feeds many mouths. Of course, it does. So do people who sell drugs and propagate terrorism they too have mouths to feed, does not mean we must go out and support them. The answer is no. Then why support a Bollywood movie, when you have a chance to save a life.
But, let me state this quite openly and vehemently. People have a right to decide for themselves on watching the movie Radhe or not. It is not for me to decide for others.
However, what I can do is decide for myself and I have decided not to pay Rs 249 to watch the Salman Khan movie ‘Radhe’ but instead pay to get a less fortunate child Radha vaccinated or looked after if the child has lost her parents or guardians.
I could watch Radhe for Rs 249. Either get a headache or enjoy the movie. However, after a few weeks the movie Radhe would go into my list of waste of time acts.
If however, I use the same Rs 249 and more to save a Radha, either through vaccine or medicines, then I would have left a mark of Being Human in actuality.
