Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2020 introduced in LS
New Delhi: The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020 was introduced by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in Lok Sabha on Sunday.
The Minister said that all religious organizations could receive foreign contributions, as long as, they used these funds for stated purposes, and not for “undermining internal security.” Objections to the introduction of the Bill by the Congress and the TMC were negated by voice vote.
The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020 seeks to streamline the provisions of
the FCRA by strengthening the compliance mechanism, enhancing transparency and accountability
in the receipt and utilization of foreign contribution worth thousands of crores of rupees every year.
The proposed amendments seek to bar public servants from receiving foreign funding.
The amendments seek to make Aadhar mandatory for all office bearers of NGOs and other organizations which are seeking foreign contributions.
