Goa Forest Department officials are on the look out for a youngster identified as Yoko Gomes hailing from Ribandar after he posted on Facebook that he killed and consumed Indian bullfrogs.
Indian bullfrogs is a protected species and for the last couple of years, the Forest Department in collaboration with nature lovers have been not only carrying out a sustained awareness campaign against their killing but also taking stringent action against those caught trapping or killing them.
When the officials rushed to Yoko’s residence at Ribandar he was not at home as he had reportedly left for Mumbai. However, the officials are learnt to have found evidence of the bullfrogs’ meat in the house.
While every year a number of people are arrested for catching frogs, last year the department achieved a major success when they caught a person in Margao with 60 live frogs which were then released in the wild.
