Kolkata: At least four more people were killed in firing at Mathabhanga, hours after a first-time voter was shot dead at Sitalkuchi in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district.
The ECI has sought a detailed report of the violence.
The security forces resorted to firing in defence in which Hamidul Haque, Haminul Haque, Manirul Haque and Nur Alam were hit by the bullets at Jorepatki under Mathabhanga assembly constituency in Cooch Behar where the 4th phase of the West Bengal assembly polls was underway.
Earlier in the day, a new voter identified as Ananda Burman was shot dead by some miscreants at Paglapir polling booth in Sitalkunchi while standing in a queue to cast his vote.
The Election Commission of India sought a detailed report of the violence and firing incident.
The four youths succumbed to the firing by the central armed forces at Mathabhagan.
TMC leader Dola Sen accused the ECI and held the commission responsible for the deaths.
She said it was the ECI running the administration of the state.
BJP leader Nishit Pramanik accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of setting party cadres against the central forces by making provocative statements against the central forces.
